Steeped in the sounds of early rock and roll as well as vintage soul, this mid-tempo track features chugging syncopated rhythms and bluesy leads alongside a smooth horn arrangement in support of frontman Brian Harris' smoldering vocal performance. Compelling lyrics conjure images of an early morning out at a downtown nightclub, set to a mesmerizing backbeat and colored by subtle yet haunting backing vocals. Drums have a nice roomy sound and a solid backbeat. Electric piano adds another nice rhythmic texture. The horns really bring this song to life, and sit well in the mix. Fun and engaging vocal performance, great swagger and bluesy delivery. Backing vox add wonderful harmonic reinforcement and lend an eerie character and layer. Lyrics are perfectly suited for the overall vibe here, more of a "blues rap" than a narrative but one that will still keep listeners' attention, thanks to an outstanding and self-assured performance that totally sells the song. Tremendous track all around, should appeal to a wide range of audiences with its hybrid of rock, blues, and soul music, as well as its incredibly hip aura.
