Every so often we as a team will be playing around with words, and throwing them out there...playing off of each other and off of a moment or a feeling. Sex and Chocolate is one of those songs that came from a culmination of those times, over many years. There was no music and not a complete set of lyrics, just a work in progress. Seven years later, while jamming and playing around with a riff that Brian had been working on for awhile, we locked into the groove that would become the basis of this song. Brian's guitar, my drums and his brother's bass came together with just the right amount of feeling and just the right amount of smooth dance like vibes he was looking for. Over that time Brian wrote several different lyrics to go with the smooth sultry beat that is Sex & Chocolate. The combination of the lyrics I tossed out to him many years before intertwined with the lyrics that he played around with over the last year, were soon melded together while in Marpole studio in June 2020. Trying out different combinations of lyrics in the sound booth while our producer Rob listened and recorded each take, Brian knew that that the first four versions were not quite what he was looking for. Enter take 5 - Both myself and Rob knew as soon as Brian had finished, that those were the words and the track to go with the music. Before Brian could get out of the sound booth and back to the main room, we were already working on the backup vocals. Sometimes a song will just come together and everyone in the room will know they have the making of a hit song! Sex & Chocolate is one of those songs.
